I just can't resist early G&Ls:

Has a little wear on the body and on the back of the neck:

It's an early one as shown by the small hex pole pieces:

the bridge serial # is low; not definitive but an indication:

Love the old school headstock. The nut width is so comfy 1 & 11/16":

It was on ebay for $1195 buy it now obo; I offered $950 and got it. I paid about $750 four years ago for my fretless L1000.
Besides, my fretless needed an older sibling ha ha. We'll see how it compares with my fave fretless 1K in a week or less when it gets here. I can't wait to hear it with rounds which I never use on the other one to preserve the board. They are twins, same finish, body wood (hog) and ebony boards.
Would you do anything with that worn off finish on the back of the neck? that is not going to mess up the neck over time, is it?

That is just stunning! I too have a weak spot for G&L, having owned an SB-2, a Legacy Special and a killer ASAT Special. I wish I could have kept the ASAT, but I never played guitar and it was a waste having such a fantastic instrument just gather dust in my room. I could also really use the money... :(

+1. I've never had the pleasure of playing an L1000, but back in the (ahem) late 80's/early 90's I was in a metal band as lead singer and the bassist had one. I NEVER forgot the tone he got out of that bass, such that when I ran into him years later I immediately asked him if he still had it. He still did, though he was playing a Peavey Cirrus as his main live bass at that point, but his L1000 was still his go to recording bass.

There's a cool ASAT on Ebay starting bid at $700...temptation...

I kick myself every day for not buying the L1000 I saw 3 yrs ago at Guitar Showcase San Jose for $600 :(
same for the lefty Ovation Magnum that sold for $750 at the same place...what a douche I am sometimes...

I can easily resist that one :P
I was referring to a guitar. I owned a beautiful Blonde ASAT Special (with the big Magnetic Field Design singlecoils) with a full maple neck and I loved every bit of it. Played sweet, sounded amazing (somewhere inbetween a standard Tele and a Jazzmaster, leaning closer towards the Jazzmaster type tone!) and it looked stunning. Had a gorgeous two-piece ash body that looked like it was bookmatched. Really something special, I've never seen another one quite like it with that was so beautifully made. I wish I could have kept it but I couldn't justify it just sitting there in its stand.

Another lefty Ovation Magnum sighting? I think Marc mentioned he saw one too. So there's at least one out there.

PJ, I mentioned it before. This one belonged to the Steve Miller Band and was signed on the headstock by Steve Miller. Remember he used to have a left handed bass player. It sounded incredible but the weigh was probably over 12 pounds and I had never heard of this model either. It's only later that I realized I could have bought it and sold it back to you for a lot more! LOL!
