What's the bass everyone wants to/plans to buy next?

I think the next on my wishlist is an ElectricalGuitarCompany aluminum neck bass.

I want a Telecastery/50s type pbass finished in black nitro with a mint pickguard.

I need a second 5 string.

I have a maple/maple Warmoth neck for a Jazz V style bass. I just need to finish the project, which hopefully I will get to do sometime this year.

American P-Bass/Carvin 5 stringer extended scale/Traben Phoenix 4/Musicman Stingray 4 or 5/among other basses...not sure which one first.

I´m a bit depressed because I don't really have anything to buy. . .

But I would love to get my hands on a fretless Rob Allen Mouse, and a 5-string Zon (or any lightweight 5-string with 34" scale and 17 or 18-mm string spacing that is not an EB/MM).

I've always wanted to try a Zon too, but there always seems to be another bass ahead of it in line to buy.

Me too! I'd love a fretless Zon or Pedulla. Adirondack is the only dealer I've seen with Zons in stock, though they're fretted 4s. (which would be neat too).

Hmm, those Zons where in-stock never at Adirondack, there were customs orders and he took pictures, and those have been there for about 5 years.

The only Zon I ever found in stock was a used 6-string they had at Bass NW about 4 years ago. And I once called Zon to ask about placing an order, and they actually had a lefty in stock from NAMM, but I didn't jump on it. That was like 7 years ago. . . . So my lusting for a Zon has been long. But i'm curious more than anything, i woulnd't have the b*lls to place a custom order, wait 6 month and pay $3K $4K for it.

Yeah, the itch for a Zon has been with me for a long time too. Ever since BassPlayer mag reviewed the original Sonus I've wanted one.

If you're ever up in Pensacola Carlos you should check out the ElectricalGuitarCompany, they're the guys making aluminum necked basses now.

I'm itching for a higher-end Jazz-style bass, maybe a Lakland Joe Osborn. I'm not gigging often enough to justify the cost yet, but I'm optimistic!

I have been GASing for a 12ver for a long time now. I almost pulled the trigger on a Waterstone when I had my tax refund in hand, but came to my senses in time!

Instead I've decided to take the long road and put a little away each month, I just have to keep my hands out of the cookiejar long enough!

I played a friend's Waterstone 12 a little over a year ago. I was unsure about it when I first heard that he'd purchased one, but after all of about 30 seconds of playing I was sold on them. Very solid build and perfect finish work.

I've been curious about those Waterstones too. Do you recall how it balanced? Being a hollowbody with 12 strings, I'd expect the headstock to nosedive to the floor.

I'd say the balance was on par with a typical Fender ... and ever so slight amount of downward headstock pressure. it definitely was not off balance like an Artcore or stock Casady reissue

I'd love to get a P/J bass of some sort. I almost jumped on a right-handed Peavey Zodiac DE that was on clearance (half of the normal price!) because of a few scuffs and a missing knob.

I'd happily re-drill the strap knob on that one and play it upside-down!

I've actually been considering the idea of buying parts from Warmoth to build my own, but I think I'm more likely to instead have Nino Valenti build me the bass I want.

I need $1.5K, though... and I don't have that kind of cash right now.

There's always SX.

The thought has crossed my mind at least a thousand times.

Maybe... maybe...

But there's something about a bass custom-built by a pro that is very attractive. Enough to make me accept the costs involved with it.

After all, I did spend $1.2K on my Stingray... I think I could live with spending $1.5K on a bass.

+1 on the Chapman Stick. A wonderful instrument. The guitarist in my ex-band played one and I tried it. I fully didn't expect to pick it up after noodling for a couple of minutes, but it became apparent to me that I would never have the time or patience to learn it. I still entertain the thought of getting one though, but prices have gone through the roof. I remember not long ago when you could pick a used one up for a grand. Now I'm seeing them go for well over 2 grand.
