My local luthier Larry of Wooden Wizard Guitars and I are working on a pretty cool lefty 5 I thought I would share.
It's made his Featured Guitar section:
http://www.woodenwizardguitars.com/photos.htmIt started when he had a customer who had ordered a 5 string All Parts neck and ended up bailing on it at the last minute. Since they are very similar to MM style headstocks, I figured I could salvage it into a lefty project with him building the body. The body is an amalgamation of body styles I have had over the years with a few twists. We sloped both sides of the body where the forearm contour is instead of one side. Looks pretty cool. Then a friend of his had an old burl table from Asia circa ~1960 that was cut for a top. It's crazy considering this particular cut had some birdseye, a bit of flame and quilt as well ! Total oddball but something to try. The core is mahogany and it will have a through-body bridge, black hardware, Kent Armstrong soapbars and wired passive (VVT, coil sw).
I'll post more progress once finishing is complete and discuss how it plays. The great thing is that I can work with Larry until all playability is right. Check him out if you have any custom requests. He's also the king of repairs specializing in serious repairs such as busted headstocks, etc.
Thanks for checking it out !
