Today I decided to go with a Shen SB180 Bass. I placed an order for one. 'Tis a mere 3 to 4 month wait. :x But I'm still very excited about it.

Did I miss something? What happened to the Engelhardt you ordered?

Well it was never technically ordered. Fretwell was going to stock one anyway and let me know when it came in. I did a little more research and seems the Shen is the way to go. Plus, there's a dealer in Nashville, so it's convenient.

Well now you've made me feel all silly congratulating you on your Engelhardt purchase, so I won't congratulate you on the Shen just yet until you're happily thumpin' away on it. ;)

I don't know if I can bear a 3 to 4 month wait. No choice now I guess. I put half down on the thing. :geek:

The Shen SB80 is an incredible bass. Congrats on it man. I bought one from Dustin Williams here in Nashville and I gotta say, it's one of the best laminate basses I've ever played. Really punchy and warm sounding. Plays really well even in the upper registers which is rare with a lot of plywood basses that I've tried. The set up Dustin did on it really brought out all the warmth and tone of the instrument and I could'nt be happier with it. I use it mainly for bluegrass stuff and it really carries it's own in that style of music. Has a pretty decent arco tone as well. I bought it mainly for bluegrass live dates. However, this past week I used it on a studio session where we were cutting a bluegrass/acoustic country record and the bass sounded perfect. You're gonna love the Shen man. All the best with it!!

Thank you for posting this. I'm getting mine from Dustin. I seem to remember you had a Shen for sale on eBay a couple years ago right? Was it the SB80? I was going to bid but I was at the lowest depths of suicidal poverty at the time.

I think I did....Don't really remember if it was the Shen though. I have a few uprite basses and did put one up on e-bay awhile ago. Just don't remember which one. Dustin's a great guy and really knowlegable when it comes to string instruments. I take all of mine to him. Don't trust anybody else to get them done the way I like them and in the time that I need them. We're probably the only 2 lefty uprite players that he has as clients. Tell him Tom DAngelo said hello.
