Does anyone own one of those? I am looking for a beater and I am a fan of Maple Neck Jazz Basses. They receive some pretty good reviews. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Squier-Left-Handed-1970s-Vintage-Mod-Jazz-Bass-Natural-/140601128219?pt=Guitar&hash=item20bc7af51b#ht_1921wt_1102 |

I have not tried that particular model, but if it's anything like the Squier Jazz basses I played at NAMM this year, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I thought they sounded really good - despite the racket in the room. Overall fit and finish were outstanding for the $$$ as well. Besides, it's Music123, so you should get a liberal return policy. And isn't there some kind of 10 or 15% Labor Day discount going on right now? |

Yep, got one. Love it. Technically had two of the them, but I tore one apart for parts to customize. The one I kept together, I painted it blue and it's my go-to standby bass. In terms of quality, I found it wasn't quite as well put together was my CV 60s p-bass, but still much better than any other squiers I had picked up in the past. The electronics are pretty good sounding, although I find the bottom on the pickups to be a little bit choked at times. Probably the best beater bass you could pick up at the moment, although I really wish they'd release the black version in lefty |

I played two different ones a couple of times (one in a music store and one owned by a lefty friend of mine) and for the money they're great basses. I was quite impressed! They're a tad on the heavy side, but the fit and finish are excellent for its price and they play very good and sound great! Compared one to my MIJ Fender '75 Jazz Bass (a bass that I absolutely love) and it withstood the test. The Squier sounds a bit more dry and less scooped than my Fender, and doesn't have the vintage feel of the Fender to it (mostly because the neck of the Squier has a satin finish, the neck shape wasn't much different) but at a fourth of the cost, it's really a very impressive bass |

I've got one as well. Excellent bass for the money. I'd favor the sunburst one if I were to buy another, as the natural finish shows many imperfections in the wood (wood knots, etc). But aesthetics aside, it sounds and plays wonderfully. It has a deeper, rounder tone than my vintage '72 Js. |

That video clip is a different VM model, however, ('77), which they don't offer left handed. My VM doesn't sound as snappy/trebly as that, though I might be able to EQ it to that sound if I tried. |

You are correct this one has an agathis body vs a soft maple for the 70's. |
