I know everyone is preoccupied with the assassination of Bin Dalai O'Lama or whatever his name was, but I have a bigger story. I'm building a Single Coil P-Bass.

Around a control plate.

Image

I bought that part around a year ago for a build I've been plotting seemingly since the post-depression era. But now it is finally coming to fruition.

Here are the details:

Body: Warmoth '54 PBass Body (has the forearm & tummy contours). Alder with Candy Apple Red finish. String-Thru. Mint Green Pickguard.

Neck: Warmoth Tele Bass. Maple/Rosewood. Vintage tint Gloss finish. Candy Apple Red Headstock. Graphite reinforcement. Neck will be Jazz Bass width. I am having a Warmoth waterslide decal made in the style of 50s era Fender Basses. "Warmoth" will be in the silver with black outline spaghetti font with "PRECISION BASS" below it. Decal Nazis, please forgive me. It's not your bass.

Electronics: The usual CTS/Orange Drop Rig, Passive. Lindy Fralin '51 PBass Split Coil Pickup. (Humless, yay.)

Hardware: Modern Fender High Mass Vintage Bridge. Gotoh Reverse Kluson-Style Tuners. Barrel Knobs. Fender Vintage Style Strap Buttons and String Tree.

So, everything is on order and it'll be a couple months at least before it's all said and done. I'll keep pix coming if there is interest. Or if there isn't.

But here is one more riveting image until then:

A box containing a few parts and whatnot.

My next and final upgrade will also be the CTS/Orange drop components.

It looks like a real cool project, I can't wait to see result!

Cool, can't wait. I'm in the planning stages for building a copy of Chris Squire's Telecaster Bass.

As far as the decal goes, they don't always fit as well on a lefty headstock. It is quite a challenge to get those to look right. I love a CAR matching headstock more than any other matching scheme.

Are you going to use pickup covers? (I personally love the look of it but it is in the way of my playing since I do a lot of muting and often play above the pickup)

The type he's getting should have no problem fitting.

Not going to use tue chrome covers. This is actually the only bass model I find them unsightly on. And yeah the decal will fit fine, it'll be modeled exactly after the decals of the day. It should look pretty damn good.

Who's making your decal? I'd like to get two '70's Jazz decals like that.

You can actually buy the "water slide" material, print out your graphic and put it on the headstock
just like you do on a model. I may have some - if you're interested it's yours.

when I was having my unit redone, that's all the builder needed was a picture of the original logo to give the company who does this stuff, and they created the new waterslide from just this picture. They charged him 10 bucks for 2 stickers.

here's the OEM:

and the re-do. we made it bigger "just because we could"....lol

Here's the actual decal:

And the silver is in fact metallic ink. I am super impressed. Looks great in person

No, I just told him I wanted the decal in the style of an old Fender spaghetti logo. He's familiar with all the old style vintage guitar decals.

I gotcha Matt. Ya mine was a little more un-common and required an exact picture.

Did this ever get answered or did I miss it? I've got a build I did a couple years ago whose headstock is still naked. This gives me an ideer.
