After nearly trading my MTD 535 over the weekend I started thinking about how few I've seen pass through the forums here (or just about anywhere else for that fact). Any other lefty MTD owners hanging out on leftybassist? |

Does a MIK KZ count? I've got a KZ 4 string, and I know a couple of other people have KZs or Kingstons as well. It's okay. Build, weight, and Buzz Feiten system especially are nice, but preamp (and possibly PUPs) are mediocre, IMO. A bit pricey too, considering these shortcomings and the competition out there, but luckily I got mine for a great price. Lefty MIA MTDs are extremely rare, as I'm sure you know. |

I used to own an MTD 535 that I sold to a guy who is now thinking about letting it go. . . geez, what a crazy individual. In my years of active bass buying, I've only seen the one you have, a fretless one over at Bass Exchange, another one on eBay from somewhere in Asia, and I remember a 635 at Bass Central made for Jimmy Haslip, and that was about 12 years ago. So, yeah, they are very rare. The one you have would cost about $3800 new. Don't do it! ez, I have a whole set of photos of that bass. click below. Every time I hear a MIA MTD being played live I think it sounds awesome. I often think that many active modern basses get buried when played through a PA but not those. I agree, I would try to stick to it if you can. |

I agree, I would try to stick to it if you can. Indeed, that 535 sounds like 1 million bucks. The wenge board and ash body makes for a very aggressive sound, if you want it that way, but it can be very smooth, too, thanks to the Bartolinis. The neck pickup soloed has the baddest P-Bass-on-steroids sound. They are definitely very modern and active-sounding, with sustain for days. The only reason I sold that to Quick was because the neck is a bit thicker than what I like on a 5-string, and it was about 9.4 or 9.5 lb. . . just a tad too heavy for my long sets. I actually bought that bass twice. I sold it and bought it again from the buyer about two years later, but I ended up letting it go again. That bass has the most exquisite quality - you can really tell they make these by hand. I've the pleasure of meeting Mike Tobias in person, and have exchanged e-mails with him over the years, and the guy's really a class act. |

Your Honeyburst Stingray 5 .... *swoons* Very cool collection. Thanks. I met MTobias once, and emailed a couple of times. THE MAN ANSWERS HIS OWN EMAIL. Think about that. You don't get a machine, a receptionist, any office worker... you get HIM. Yes, class act. |

I am the privileged owner of two USA MTD's: A 1997 six-string with all wenge neck & FB--along with an Avadora body and a myrtle burl top--almost traded it for a Wal. Let's just say I'm glad I still have it--you'll never find a better tapered neck on a six string. My second MTD: A 4 string Ash body, neck, figured walnut top, wood knobs and Bird's eye FB--a slappers' wet dream! Pics to follow! Hold on to your MTD--truly exceptional instruments in a class all by themselves. I also own a Roscoe SKB 5, A Bebensee 4, a Minnieweather 5, A pedulla pentabuzz fretless & warwick thumb fretless, A Stambaugh 4, among others--all exceptional, too. |

Lol @ Lefty007 and Addison.....thanks for talking me off the ledge guys! Mikes basses are truly unique & full of character/tonal possibilities...I'd still contemplate trading for the right 6'er but for now it won't be going anywhere |
