Looks like I was a bit premature about the dearth of MIJ lefties, just got a recent catalog and they are all still being made, sorry about that! To check them out, this is one of the best sites. Enjoy!

Ah, the tease that is Taniguchi-Gakki. They've been taunting us for years. :lol: Alas, they don't ship outside Asia, AFAIK. They're also a bit of an anomaly within Japanese dealers, as I've seen lefty instruments available there that I've never seen for sale anywhere else (Those Mosrites, for example). Perhaps they have agreements with certain companies to do exclusive limited lefty runs?

I like those Grass Roots Les Paul basses.

I just received a black 75JB reissue from Jo's store in Tokyo. Very nice. There are 2 available still.

Apparently, they've started doing so somewhere during the course of last year. Emailed them a while back when they discounted those lovely Fender '75 Jazz RI's and they answered quickly and politely that they could ship them for a fair price.

Hi guys,
I think I did it before but if you have trouble navigating the sites in Japan, I'll give you the Japanese words to search for on some of the sites.
Bass = ベース
Lefty = レフティ− or レフティ
Lefthand = レフトハンド
Cut n paste any of these into search bars n you should be able to get some serious lefty eye candy. if you cut n paste "lefty" in Japanese first n then "bass" n paste it as one word, it should cut out all the righty stuff. Also check out these stores:
KurosawaGakki - kurosawagakki.com
MikiGakki - mikigakki.com
IshibashiGakki - ishibashi.co.jp

Yahoo Auctions is the Japanese version of eBay n is very droolworthy but most sellers only deal with in Japan sales but if you have a Japanese friend, ....

I normally don't get excited about black basses, but that black Les Paul looks stunning! I'm not familiar with Grass Roots, but judging by the pictures alone it would appear that the quality and build are superior to the Brice LP basses I've seen.

Here's a link to basses:

And here's another cool lefty I wouldn't mind having, an Aria Pro AS-690B-L:

Interesting. Were they able to communicate in english? And do think their overseas shipping is limited to Europe, or would the US and Canada also have a crack at some of these?

Grass Roots are the "entry level" ESP brand, but I've seen some of their stuff up close & they look very well made, especially for the price.

I can vouch for Jo's. The markup is a bit on the heavy side, but they're totally professional, lightning fast shippers if item is in stock (Tokyo-NYC in 4 days, sale to delivery) and can email in English.

KuboTen is a service that handles Japanese Yahoo auctions for a small fee. I've used them many times - although never for anything as big as a bass - and have found them easy to work with.

Yes, they answered in English, but not very good. Looked like they'll ship anywhere you'll ask them to, but I'm not entirely sure. Check out this page: http://shop.taniguchi-gakki.jp/user_data/english.php

Hey PJ, did you just mirror the righty pics or are they real?? :o
Thats (esthetically) the bass of my dreams and i know that the Grassroot Les pauls are 32", my (theorecally) ideal scale......i guess i would be so dissapointed if i tried one... i'm glad i out of money (for now)
