Here's my Jetglo 4001 (1978) ... I bought it 12 years ago ... I had just joined a new band a needed an amp ... I went into the Bass shop and saw this - there was no question, I had to have it! It's in great condition and I put a new treble pickup in a few years back. I love it although I have to say I've never got it to sound as good as I wanted (especially since getting my first active bass 6 years ago). I use a PreSonus TubePre Pre-amp to boost the signal ...that helps a lot. Anyone else have a Rickenbacker? I'm all ears on tips of how to get a good tone.

I'm a Ric player, I just plug the 4003 and it sounds great, I don't like active basses though. After I got it I stopped playing my Stingray.

I have a 2008 mapleglo 4003. It suits one of my bands particularly well so for their gigs I use it almost exclusively. It took some getting used to, I loved the tone from the start but its playability was a whole different story (very chunky and wide neck). But it's a great bass and I love it :)

I have a 1979 wine glow 4001. A very root sound, amazing. Mine is a bit different, as the neck is a full right handed (till the tusrod cover!). I took me 2 years to really understand that beauty, and to make it sound perfect. Neck is IMO more confortable than a Precision neck, and not so bad in comparison with my 70 Jazzbass. Everything is a matter to get used to it.

One young guy nearby paris got a '79 4001, in jetglo. The sound is far away amazing, less roots, a big more full. I stayed amazed by the difference between the 2 instruments.

The last one I saw en LH was a '81 green or blue one (can remember well), in Barcelona, not in a good shape, sold for a to high price

Maybe his bass has the cap bypass mod and yours does not?

I have a newer 4003 in Jetglo. Great bass, but it doesn't get played.

Mine doesn't have this capacity anymore. I'm more begging around 2 qualities... I have some kind of weak neck mic sound, that's not beased on capa stuff. But still, ricks rock !

I've got a 2001 fireglo V63.

One thing I've noticed about all the Ric's I've owned in the past is that you have to have a very aggressive picking or fingering style to get it to growl ala Geddy or Squire.

I own a '79 Burgundyglo 4001. I recently installed the push/pull cap pot and now have the best of both worlds.

Hey is that a Rick 340 guitar? I have the exact same thing except as a 12-string (340-12). I don't think I've ever seen another lefty besides mine before. Even the shade of dark Fireglo is the same. I got mine new in April 1991. What year is yours?

An old picture of my 2009 Jetglo 4003. Now with a professional setup and the pickup cover back on.

I absolutely love the sound of a Ric and had wanted to get one for some years, I eventually bought a 4001s back in the early 90's however I could never get it to sound right and was not overly impressed with the neck either. I also found the rather 'slab' un-chamfered body tended to dig in my ribs a bit so I never found it comfortable to play. I eventually sold it 2 or 3 years later (p/exed for a Warwick Streamer). I still love the look and sound of them, but the Ric didn't work for me unfortunately.

I was trying to recreate this guy's paintjob on his 4001S.

It's an '82 4001S, it was originally Mapleglo, so I had to do a Fireglo finish on it first, then do the crazy Magical Mystery Tour paintjob.
