So I bought this:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1532&p=10177#p10177

as it is a clone of my first real bass and workhorse for over 20 years now. In a moment of stupidity I defretted it at one point, and while it actually sounds great fretless (despite my hack job), I'll never be more than a closet fretless player and I've been longing to gig with my old bass. Lucky for me AzWhoFan had the cure! Serial numbers are E912152 and E902417, which if they are in order makes this one slightly older than my original.

Here are the first (shitty) reunion pics:

The new one is in amazingly good condition. Look at the difference in the finishes:

Yeah those are stickers - you got a problem with that? :P

I put a fresh set of DR hi beams, strap locks I had already, and had to adjust the truss rod a bit and it's good to go. Intonation was perfect already. The bartolinis are thunderous. Can't wait to surprise my band at the next gig. All I've played is the SR5 forever.. :D

Wow, your's has yellowed a lot more than my old one, which I find interesting because it rarely lived in it's case. It was either on a stand or hanging on a wall for most of its' existance.

Glad you like it. The only regular maintenance I had to do to it was a shot of De-oxit every now and then in the treble pot.

Yeah I was surprised I didn't realize how yellowed it was until I put them side by side. That thing's been thru hell and back, and seen countless smokey bars so who knows.. Yours (well mine now!) looks brand new in comparison!

The action was a little high and at first the truss wouldn't go any tighter, but I just back clamped the neck and got that one more turn I needed to get it just where I wanted it.

Those are the only guitars/basses I like the pepperoni scratchplates on (vintage white w/rosewood). Nice basses ; )

Ya know, I've had to squeeze a lot of grease out of them peperonies over the years ...

BTW, your new bass was gigged a lot all through the 90's. Can't for the life of me figure out why it didn't yellow up a lot more ... ah well, c'est la vie ... maybe it has something to do with the daylight in Arizona ....
