I am very into Fender Coronado Guitars and Basses. I have a lefty Coro II Guitar (alright, I flipped it to righty). The only lefty Coronado II Guitars I have seen are either Sunburst or Antigua. The Coronado Bass II, Antigua Bass II, and Wildwood Bass II are all listed in the July 1968 Fender P/L as being available. I have never seen one. Does anyone here own one or have a pic? I also enjoy Competition Mustangs, and have only seen one Bass, it was Comp Blue. |

There is/was a guy on the FDP who supposedly had a lefty Coronado bass, but he plays righty and flipped it over. It was heavily modified too. Otherwise, I've never seen another one. Likewise on the competition Mustang. This is the only lefty I've ever seen: http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=2914.0 |

Comp. Blue Mustangs tend to go to that Sherwood Green color very often. I am convinced that it was not the exact paint as LPB. There were some with a Purpleburst (peghead bursted, too) that were a different shade than LPB. I have never seen an LPB Fender go as Green as a Comp Mustang. |

I tipped him off for that Mustang when it was on eBay a while back. Very cool bass. |

He just did! (in the bachbird topic on the BGF) I own a LPB compettion mustang indeed and three lefty musicmasters. I shall take some new pics and post them up here. I really want a coronado bass lefthanded and would give a leg for a wildwood one. |

I also share an infatuation with the Wildwoods myself. I've only seen 1 lefty Wildwood Coronado guitar ever, not a bass, but a 12 string! I almost jumped on it. As for lefty Coronado basses, I've only seen one, and it was heavily modified by a (what else) righty. |

Sorry for the bad pics. but when the weather is better/warmer/brighter i'll take some picture outside in the garden. but for now It was orignally a LPB but it's laquer yellowed so it became more like a sherwood green. Like it. Was looking for a mustang for some time and wish somedag that lovely LPB one with competitions stripes would turn up again somewhere o nthe bay. Luckly LeftyJ tipped me of when it did reappear in the UK. I jumped on it and buy it. Never regrett it. I really dig those short scale fenders And this "plank" bass has a neck off on '77 tighty MM |

After a half-hearted attempt to find a lefty Mustang Bass I got one of these: |

AMAZING collection, saf. Lefty Musicmasters pop up every so often and seem to be gaining popularity/appreciation. About 95% of the ones I've seen are black on black, however. As for Mustangs, one pops up about every 3 years or so. They seem to be much rarer, and I've only seen one other lefty competition other than yours (It was red). Austin: Is that one of those pink Main Street basses that are sold on ebay? How's it sound/play? |

It's an SX short-scale. I love the neck, very thin all the way up. The pickup is WAY hot(you can see in the one pic how far I had to lower it to keep it from overdriving my preamp. Sounds/plays good, weighs nuthin'. Inexpensive but not cheap. |

I think I like the musicmaster more than the mustang. Just because the simplicity of it and the "slab" body. But maybe I just have to get used to the mustang a bit more. I don't see many lefty musicmaster around and almost everyone I see is the yellowed white. I saw a black one ones on ebay but I don't like black basses that much. And that black one was over in the states. Just had one lefty shipped in from australia so didn't go after the black one. The black pickguard musicmasters are post '76 and I like the pre '76 more than the post 76 ones. |

I have to correct my post. Now that I played them more. I have to admit that I prefer the mustang over my beloved musicmasters. I couldn't wait for a lefty wildwood coronado II to show up on the bay or anywhere else. Did contact some big sellers of vintage gear but no one knows of one. So I did it. I bought a righthanded version. It's from 1967/68 in good very good condition. |

Dear Lord, Saf you have awesome taste in basses! I love the Coronados too... *drool* I sent you a message on another forum as we're both owners of LH Comp Mustang Basses, and I'm having problems with my tuners and hoped you had some advice. I think the message I sent was on bassistoutpost.com. Yeah, that's it. But if anyone else has advice, please let me know! I've got those same tuners that are on Saf's 'stang bass (also on the Wildwood Coronado here), and they are hard to turn and get to stay in tune! A tiny turn takes it from E to F#! (Other strings alike). I've got a show coming up at the end of the month & am wondering if I should try to get a set of cloverleaf's (20:1) that I found, or if there might be a trick to get these ones to act right. I just put on a set of Rotosound medium scale 77s. (E string is a 90) I've had the original strings on her since July, same problems tuning, then put on some D'Addario half-wounds a month ago, but didn't like em so switched to the Rotosounds this week. The prob. with tuning has been consistent throughout string changes... Are those cloverleafs the best bet or ??? I don't want to drill new holes and would like to keep the vintage beauty in tact. Thanks in advance for your help! PS - I've only been playing & had the bass since July, so be easy on this newbie! |

Hi LeftyMustangBass, welcome to the board. You should be able to get answers here a few ways; general repair questions can be directed to Rodent in the blueprinting and bondo section, lots of the guys here are knowledgeable about specific brands and basses so you should find answers to your questions related to Mustang basses too. And if you decide to replace the tuners Bill from Hipshot participates here and I'm sure could steer you to the right tuners you'd need. Good luck and hopefully we can help you out. |
