I've got another right handed single coil P that I'm reversing to play lefty. This one has the 2 piece bridge with strings thru body which requires more string length. I'm using long scale TI flats and I find that the red cloth winding that's on the end of the E string is going to extend down thru and just a hair below the nut. I can see that there is enough room to trim away that red thread so that bare string clears the nut and it will still leave come cloth covering the fully wound string. Seems like this should be OK, yes? Any thoughts, suggestions? |

With flats I don't think it matters much because you don't hear as much harmonics then rw. Try it and see if you hear a difference in sound compare to the other strings. Of course it is not the best but it might be just fine. Hope this helps, Sly |

I've done it many times over the years, I use a razor blade, shave back one area of the silk then roll the rest back as needed. |

Sly Thanks guys, that's exactly what I did. Yes the full size/thickness of the string extends up above the nut, it's just covered under the silk thread. I trimmed the thread away so it starts clear of the nut and then added a dab of Elmer's glue to keep it from unraveling any further. This is my second righty to lefty conversion, found a beautiful blue floral CIJ single coil P going for cheap. I'll post pics when I have time, too busy playin it right now! |

yep - don't forget to add a little glue to the trimmed ends of the silk all the best, R |
