Hi guys,

Picked a Professional series bass with the new fluted tuners with open window that shows the gear. The weight is right, but I'm finding them super sloppy. It takes a lot of turn to get a pitch change.

Anyone else experience this?

It's my first bass with the tapered tuning posts, so maybe my usual 2-4 wraps (less on the E more on G) is forcing the string down more than usual and it's binding in the nut?

Okay... Cool. Good to hear. Thank you.

I bet anything that the string is binding in the nut. The worst offender is the G which, incidentally, has the most wraps on the post.

I've always been meticulous about wrapping the string around the post to force it down to get a good break angle. Looks like I'll have to change it up on this bass.

Break angle on the G and D string is determined by the string tree.

I would lubricate the nut with graphite and see if that helps

Mine function perfectly, and the tuning is as stable as can be.
