After looking for months, I finally put my money down and ordered a 5 string.

I guess it's hard to tell from the picture, but it's a Japanese 199? Fender jazz bass V.

I live in Japan and I've been passively looking for a 5 string for over a year and I missed out on another jazz bass V in November so I've been craving a 5 string since. A second one popped up and I actually went to order it, but my credit card didn't go through, which made sense since all I use it for is digital purchases. I thought "I'll figure it out tonight" but then it was gone.

I saw this one in January, but it seems a bit more than I wanted to pay. Then they dropped the price twice and the shopping site had a point back sale, so I pulled the trigger.

I considered two different custom option and was also very interested in a purple Schecter but there would have been a 5-6 month wait. I got dangerously close to getting a SBMM Ray5 before the price drop, but I'm terrible about getting rid of gear, so I wanted to make sure I really liked it before ordering and there's nowhere in my town that I could try one.

Now I just need to find a black or tortoise pick guard. I love a dark pick guard on sunburst.

I’d like to find one of those fivers again. Congrats!

Thanks.
I know they made them in 1994-5, 2008, and 2013 for the Japanese domestic market, but Fender has been controlling the Japanese market a lot closer since 2015 so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make them again.

Hopefully I'll get this some time next week. I'm super excited.

Did you sell that white one again already?
Do you still have that Sire?

I had canceled the Sire to get the white one, then finances forced me to sell the white one. Oh well.

Here's what I got:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Japan-JBV-LH-/264980408640?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

I didn't pay that much, but it's the same bass.

I noticed people putting things on eBay that they don't own. I guess the idea is if someone buys it, they'll order it from the proper store. It seems kinda shady to me but I guess it's an easy way out earn a few bucks and sell things to people outside of Japan.

Thank you thank you. It arrived today and it's even cleaner than expected. They even replaced the strings with new ones, which is good because the ones in the picture look pretty old.

I'll take pictures when I can, but one thing I noticed is there's a strange hole in the middle of the pick guard. I did a quick Google and it seems to be in all of this model. Anyone know why?

There’s supposed to be a pickguard screw in that center hole

Ah, that makes sense. I'm thinking replacing the puckguard anyway. I like dark one better.
