Does anyone make a passive fretless bass, with fret lines? I mean, something within a range of $1000-1500. I've searched and come up with zilch, other than a Shecter and Eastwood. |

I would think Sire, although they changed their website and I cannot pull up any lefty or fretless basses. As far as I know, all their actives have the switch that allows you to play passive, and there are lines available for fretless models. I have a MM V7 (IIRC), lefty, and it is pretty nice. |

Another vote for Sire. I just sold my fretless, but it was a solid, well made bass. For much less $, however, you might want to consider a Vintage Icon V74MRJP (that's the name of the company, not referring to an actual vintage instrument). It's a distressed, inexpensive Jaco's "Bass of Doom" copy that does come left handed, and it really can nail the Jaco sound. It also has fret lines: https://www.capitolguitars.com/listing/ ... t/15109052 |

Willie, I've noticed your posts on not having much luck looking for a Fender style fretless 4 string. I've got a couple things I'm not necessarily looking to sell but if they interest you (or anyone else), let me know. Since you're just starting out on fretless, you may want to consider spending a bit less and getting something good yet affordable to get your feet wet? This 2007 SX SJB-62QMD lined fretless Jazz bass was my first fretless (and do not be put off by the brand name- it not only looks good, it plays and sounds great as well). The electronics are surprisingly responsive, and the really nice lined rosewood board produces sweet pronounced mwah tones- it still gets complements whenever I bring it out. A fine platform with more than enough going on to get anyone started down the fretless road. Excellent clean condition. Here's an old 2010 video of a guy demo-ing the same model (different color): https://youtu.be/dGAVZWrSD1U A little further up the scale is one of my all-time favorites... this vintage 1984 Kramer Pioneer Fretless is simply one of the best basses I've ever played, period- and pretty much my idea of the perfect passive fretless bass. This early 80’s era of Kramers were not that well known but basically they're a refined, high quality copy of the classic Fender P design. The black/ maple combination is such an elegant look: alder body, Schaller precision pickup with coil tap function, black Schaller hardware , etc. and the maple neck/ fretboard are truly a thing of beauty. Also excellent clean condition. |

Thanks to all for the info. I dig the Sires, and I like the two pics above. The economy has hit, I'm afraid, so I'll have to put this off for a while. |

I fully agree about the Economy I have a Brice Fretless Bass on sale at Reverb that I would sell to you here, if you want it for $300 just PM me here. https://reverb.com/item/34525023-brice-fretless-2003-blue All kidding aside I am not a Fretless player so although this is 17 years old I would say it has about 20 hours of playing on it. These are great basses for the price and gives you a great fretless sound. |

That Kramer, those USA Peavey's, that G&L SB-1, but especially the Atelier Z Jay always has a good stock of lefty basses. That Atelier Baby Z was mine. It's mint and the price is very good. They're hard to find in the states and I paid considerably more for it new. |

Thanks, Bob. I've really got to say no to anything now. Gotta land a job before I can add one to my collection. |
