You guys...

I guess, to clarify what I mean about the body being correct... I should specify and say that I at least know that the neck route in the body is correct for the neck.

The Fender rep told me that if the route for truss rod access is there, then the CNC was programmed to do the proper neck pocket since that's part of the process. How the bridge was drilled is actually irrelevant.

I was concerned and asked about it and that's the answer I got... so I'm happy with it.

Hmmmm....

Well, I think you hit the jackpot with the weight, especially considering there's vintage spec'd tuners on there.

I'd sort out things w/ Fender to get the neck that I wanted (if it were me I'd go for a B width 7.25") and then I'd totally ignore anything details that weren't period correct (trussrod, bridge, etc.)

As opposed to calling it a "faithful re-creation of a 58". I'd just call it "my dream bass." Heck, I'd probably even have them throw modern tuners on it for the sake of balance.

As Matt said, I'm leaning towards keeping it as is...

I actually like a flatter radius and the fact that it has the graphite reinforcement bars and the vintage necks don't, makes it very appealing.

I originally ordered it with a vintage style '58 to keep it as close to original spec as possible.

Honestly, it plays and sets up so good now that I feel like I'd be taking a risk on a rebuild that might not turn out as well as this bass did.

Hmmmm...

How does it sound and how does it feel with your eyes closed? Does it hit the sonic landscape you were aiming for? If it does, I would keep it and not sweat the details, and maybe have Fender fix the pup and electronics issues. Just my 2 cents ....

Just think, if you decide to keep it as is you'll have the only "mintage" lefty P bass on the planet. (I like that better than "vodern")

Keep it. No doubt you rustling their feathers will convince them NEVER to even consider offering lefties again. ;)

Personally, I think you should get what you paid for/expected. It's not what you ordered, regardless of how awesome it plays. This was supposed to be a dream bass/once in a lifetime opportunity. What did they offer in the way of compensation if you decided to keep it?

Forgive me if I've overlooked it, but has anyone received a true "vintage" style neck with vintage radius?

Until ADE, they weren't making these for lefty. I'd like to believe that Fender didn't just fill lefty ADE orders from using parts from their exisiting parts bin. (ash bodies aside)

Fender guy 1: "Aw, man, we screwed up this lefty ADE bass! It's not what he ordered."

Fender guy 2: "So what? Just ship it. We haven't given lefties many options for years! He'll probably be grateful just to be getting something we haven't been offering to lefties before."

Yes, here's a picture of one from TalkBass:

Mine was truly an anomaly... and for the record, Fender acknowledged the mistake and made up for it in spades. They were WAY cool about it... yes, they screwed up, but I've honestly had better customer service from Fender than I've had almost anywhere else.

I've kept this all on the down-low until I could work it all out with Fender or whatever, but here's the truth.

This all really worked out to my benefit, because what I really wanted to order in the first place was a vintage-style bass with the classic hardware, decal and vintage tint, but I wanted a modern neck with a flatter radius and graphite reinforcement bars.

That wasn't possible, so I just went for the vintage series anyway, purely for the looks.

I benefited from their mistake. I got the bass I REALLY wanted, but couldn't order... and I couldn't be happier right now.

It is literally the best playing p-bass I have ever had.

Yes, that and a lot more.

They were really concerned about their error and more than made up for it.

I'm really happy right now and wouldn't hesitate to place a third order.
