Hi Guys:

Perhaps its because of COVID, but part of me wants a cheap new bass. I'm not even playing out lately. I only have two basses, a Martin Acoustic Bass strung with nylons and a Musicman Bongo 5 double humbucker. Part of me feels like a passive jazz bass would fill a hole in the line up, but I'm not sure. Is a jazz bass tone different enough to make a purchase worth it? Should I hold out for a cheap 5 string? I do not want to spend a lot on this. This is more a ...nice to have funsies kind of bass. I am leaning right now with the old Squier Vintage Modified in Natural, or possibly the new Classic Vibe Jazz bass (used, new is a bit rich for me).

Sorry for the open ended nature of my question...but any feedback would be appreciated.

Yes a Jazz would be vastly different than the two basses you mentioned. I would grab a Player. I got one a couple weeks back and even though I did upgrades, it was largely fine out of the box.
You could look for a used one as well.

I've got a classic vibe jazz in natural I would be interested in selling. I've also got a couple of other fender style jazzes as well. Prices range from
$250 to $325. I'm in Southern Maryland about an hour from Woodbrige VA. If you're interested give me a call. 301-932-2734, or send me an email wolfsweekly@aol.com. Here's a link to my website that has some pictures of some of the basses I have.
