Starting at the low end, there's a Hohner for sale right here for $175:

There are Squier P/J's (Fender calls them "Precision Bass Specials") that come up from time to time. Usually for $200-300. I have one. It actually feels really nice. I'm still trying to find pickups that I like in it, but that was the whole purpose of it. I'll probably end up with a set of pickups that alone cost double what I paid for the wood.
Ibanez has a few entry-level P/Js, but I don't know anything about them.
The Schecter Model-Ts are supposed to be great. The new version, the Model T Session, has active electronics, so maybe not what you're looking for, but I love the way it looks. I've been this || close to bidding on this one more than once, but something has always come up:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/322012650203?_t ... m570.l5999I think this price is okay. I offered the seller $500 in Dec and he turned me down, but no one is biting at $525.
If you're looking to spend a little more, G&L makes the SB-2. There's one at NJ Guitar and Bass:

https://www.gbase.com/gear/g-and-l-sb2-lefty-2013-carI want an SB-2 so bad!
That reminds me, NJ G&B also has a Schecter P/MM on that same page, which you might also be interested in. Both Paulo and Yolly111 here have experience with those and can tell you about them.
Actually, Yolly111 is selling his Fender hot rod here:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6869If you're looking to go minimalist, I have a Hohner B2B that isn't getting as much love as I thought it would. I bought it as an office/travel bass. But I don't travel much, and I started keeping my acoustic at the office instead. I have a set of La Bella flats on there and believe me you don't lose anything by getting rid of the head and body. It's still 34" scale and sounds like a P with flats should. Here's a guy playing one much better than I can:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDsT_oH4oAUTakes normal P and J pickups so you could mod it if you wanted to, but there's really no need.
You might be able to tell that I like P/Js.
