Hi.
I need some help identifying my bass. I know that it is a 2001 American precision, which is pretty obvious by the serial etc. What I don't know if it's a hot rod model or hot rodded DIY. I'd like to know this, since I am selling the bass and need to know the details. I bought it from a guy through this forum maybe about 4 years ago and I was given all the details then, but I've since forgotten everything about it and lost the emails and such..
So is it hot rodded or a factory-made hot rod model?
I'm also wondering if both pickups are Fender or something else. I'd think the P pickup is stock, but I don't know about the J.

The bass is passive, olympic white, string through body, serial no. Z0137884
I hope the original owner is still here on the forum, so I can get first hand information on the subject, but maybe someone else can help.

Here's a couple of pics

I can take more in detail, but I can't promise better quality.

Yes, original Fender. In 2001 the model was called Hot Rodded P-Bass. That's the Fender name.

Single coil in the bridge, probably whatever they were putting on American Jazz basses at the time, which always have been great. Some manufacturers put a hot bridge pckups in P/J configurations for better balance. These were balanced, but I don't remember reading anywhere that these were hotter than a regular Jazz single coil. This was one year when they offered lefties in all the colors: transparent orange, natural, black, sunburst, and the white you have, which is quite rare. I had one of each.

These sound good, though, not my favorite P-Bass. I thought they were all a bit too heavy, over 9 lb or so (which is heavy to me) and the fret work wasn't the best, but not awful either. The bridge pickup is single coil so it hums in noisy situations. When this model when out of production, Musicians Friend was selling them on closeout for $599. . .! I bought a few, but sold them shortly after. They hold good prices today, around $800 to $1000. . . I like post-2008 P-Basses much better (lighter, more resonant, better fretwork), but if P/J is your thing, these are a solid, and rare, option.

Awesome answer. Thank you!

The bass is indeed heavy and the bridge pu hums like crazy. When I first bought it, I thought the P/J was essential, but to be honest, I only used the bridge. I have not used other Pbasses, but according to this one, they don't really suit my needs. If I played with a pick, it would be perfect, but I mostly use my fingers. Using my fingers, I can't get the tone and definition I need . Otherwise it's a great bass, but now I'm looking for something different.

There are not many white ones so if you decide to sell it within the price range indicated you should be able to sell it rapidly. They are great instruments for those who like a PBass.
