For college i've decided to learn the double bass right handed after playing electric left handed for a couple years.

Has anyone else done this?

Lets discuss!

I can play some guitar righty. I practiced it a little bit, but I suck as righty in many ways.
never got passed the open chord phase of the training.

I learned to play upright inverted, so it looks really weird when I play.

I had the opportunity to experiment with an upright a year or so ago and had no problems getting used to the orientation. If I ever decide to get an upright I would have no problem leaving it right handed. Although I agree it will look strange.

Please post some updates and let us know how this is working for you.

I am by no means an accomplished upright player, but I have been playing more on my Stagg EUB the past month or so. One thing I immediately noticed is I am having some difficulty coordinating my left hand bowing while applying vibrato with the right hand. (The left hand inadvertently wants to shake as well). It comes much easier bowing right handed for me and fretting/vibrato with left hand. I'll get it eventually, but right now it's like patting your head while rubbing your tummy simultaneously - can only do it if I'm patting with the right hand.

I've played guitar lefty for, um... decades. A while ago I took up cello and learned righty. It took a while to get the basic bowing coordination going, fingering with my (coordinated) left hand was easier. It's a "can do"!
