Ok if anyone is interested I wanted to show off a project I have been working on for a while and this weekend my wife and two daughters went skiing in Pittsburg so I had all weekend to stink up my whole house with spray-paint and had the hours and hours needed to solder and put together this golden nugget.
So parts rundown. A beautiful German Warwick fretless neck I bought from Gravesbass a while ago I added the old school adjustable brass nut and a set of true German Gold tuners and truss rod cover I bought from eBay from Danna B Goods. Neck is ovangkol and ebony fingerboard with looks to be factory done maple lines neck is a “05” and super straight and perfect and extremely thin for a Warwick. It’s one of the best bolt on fretless necks I have ever played.
Body was another eBay purchase months ago it’s just a Warwick Rockbass Corvette body that’s Chinese I think basswood but man I have no clue really. I ripped the pickups out and the preamp and knobs for my pile of bass crap in boxes and Tupperware.
The pickups are Bartolini passive classic tone series and I installed a high end MEC German 9 volt preamp from a German Warwick Corvette Jazzman and has push pull active passive, master volume pan stacked knob, treble, mid, bass 3 band preamp that is very transparent and works well with the Bartolini preamp.
The body was originally a matte black color and it was boring so hell I thought I would give it some flavor. I bought a kit from the craft store that is a 3 step antique aged gold and looks like Aztec gold and came out great except I’m no pro painter and I had a few drips and assorted snafus in the finish so instead of sanding all down and whatever and with a good spray paint buzz at 4 AM my old hippie side came out and I did the sort of 60’s paisley patterns. Yeh I know it’s a little out there but I like it.
SO the golden nugget is born and man oh man it plays and sounds amazing. Thanks for checking out...
