Same bass different neck it is a good opportunity to compare maple neck vs rosewood. So how different is it? |

That was one of the reasons to buy this neck, just to answer this question for once and for all (at least for myself). The differences are really minimal, the maple fingerboard sounds a bit more focused and aggressive, the rosewood one has more body and is little bit smoother and richer in tone. I haven't done a one on one comparison, this first impression was just based on memory, maybe I'll do a more thorough test a later time. Given the fact the differences are this small in a real world situation it wouldn't matter which one you go for, the looks will have a lot more impact than the sound. |

Another new toy, a BaCH BPB-60 butterscotch. Custom-order, started out as a bit of a 'lack of lefty offers' jest on a Dutch bass guitar forum, the Dutch importer took up on it and did some asking around with BaCH, this bass is the end result. A big thanks to Rob at NumberOneGuitars. |

Cool stuff! Looks very nice! Was just listening to Jimmy Smith's Root Down (Wilton Felder plays the same kind of bass). |

Ver cool, I like them all. Each is very different from the other. I really like the Bach. Congrats! I almost got in on a group purchse of the Bach non-reverse T-bird but the design changed and the whole shipping arrangements were problematic at the time. |

It is chunky, not extremely thick but very wide. Let's just say it's a lot bigger than a average Jazz Bass. It feels very comfortable, but I am used to wide necks. |

And the most recent new toy, hopefully I'm done buying for a longer period of time now! Harley Benton PB-Shorty. Fun little bass, unbelievably well built for its price (70 euro's at Thomann, this one was even cheaper, 60 euro's B-stock). Mechanically everything is okay, reasonably well finished, no sharp fret ends, only the tuners sometimes feel a bit vague. The thing that really needed to be done was a proper shielding job, this is absolutely necessary. Also sanded the back of the neck lightly with 1200 grain sandpaper, and of course put on a set new strings and done some fine tuning. For its 30" scale it almost sounds as a full sized P-bass, at least to my ears. |

Not a new bass, just some new parts on a older one. Replaced the three knob control plate on my Chi-Sonic Squier with a two knob stacked one today. More tonal control and it just looks so nice. |

You are amazing blablas what you can do with a cheap bass to make it better is incredible, not to mention your custom builds, which are off the hook. |

Thanks. Besides playing them, all this customizing and tinkering is a big part of the fun with basses for me. Been doing this ever since I bought my first bass, always looking for ways to improve them. A nice side-effect out of all of this modifying is that I never had the urge to buy expensive basses, everything I don't like on a cheap one I can fix myself. At a certain moment in time I decided that if wanted a real custom build bass I might as well go over the top and just make it myself, after that I never looked back. |
