2013 MIA, but with stack knob controls. I like.

Yes it does. The tort adds an extra touch of vintage vibe over the stock white guard.

Nice, guys. By the way, I almost threw creme colored covers on my pickups too. Those look fantastic with that combo.

Yes indeedy, transplanted from a bass I built in high school woodshop. So that makes them very early 80's vintage. :D

Very cool bass and very glad you posted this pic.
Been planning a relic'd black refin on my white mij jazz for a while and already sourced a stack-knob control plate.
Im also planning to give mine a matching black headstock with gold decal. My tort guard may be a bit on the red side though so may keep my current faux gold anodised one on it.

Do you notice any big change in tone using the concentric controls?

Good question, and though I have owned a few stacked knob Jazz basses over the years in addition to the infinite number of V/V/T Jazzes, I finally can answer that. I have a totally stock 2013 Fender Am Std Jazz, and of course I have this one which is the exact same instrument spec-wise, except for the control assembly, so I have a really good A/B comparison basis.

Jazz basses have that midrange thing going on inherently. But the stack knob Jazz has more of a super low with a high zing on top of it, and the midrange is less pronounced but still there. Because of this, the stack knob (to my ears and in the context of comparing these two particular basses) is arguably a little tighter sounding as opposed to the VVT setup, which is angrier and snarly, which I also love.

Both of these basses are 2013 American Standard with similar weights (9-10lbs), alder bodies, d'addario nickel strings (.45-.100) and Fender 60s custom shop pickups. Both passive of course, and the concentric assembly is all Fender parts.

Hope this helps.

Wow man. What are the details on that bass? Gorgeous.

It was once a 1994 Fender Custom Shop reissue of one of those slab neck early 60s Jazzes. I bought it in 2001 and whoever owned it before really must have played it hard. After a few years, the pots had all failed and the original neck became unplay/repairable. So it got totally Frankensteined: Warmoth neck, rerouted to accept a P-bass pickup up front (notice it's mounted backwards so it will fit on the J-bass pickguard), and I took out one of the volume pots and replaced it with a 3-way pickup toggle switcher. Definitely my "all-purpose" bass.

Black and tort are original! though!
