I'll try to get some lighter/sharper pics, but meantime here's my '79 P bass. Just got it for my 50th - Happy Bday to me! From what I can tell, its all original and in great shape. I play classic rock covers so the sound is amazing. I took the PU cover and thumb rest off - still deciding on the bridge cover..... Enjoy.

Indeed a beautiful bass... and I'd say leave the bridge cover on - I think it looks classier that way....

Wow, you must have walked in with a handful of granades or something. CME rarely negotiates on price IME. Congrats again!

There was a '79 for sale on Guitar Center used gear for $1, 100. It was there for awhile. Sunburst maple neck. Was in Sacramento GC

Too bad I didn't see that one... C'est la vie ;) $1,100 was either a misprint, modified, or someone got the steal of the century!

I see a '78 black/maple for $1,999 at GC in NJ. Wonder if the covers and thumb rest are missing...

What a great piece of ash! ;) No really, that is an amazing grain pattern on that and the finish looks beautiful, congrats!

That one was pretty beat up. I almost drove out there and snagged it but got a second wind... and lack of travel.....

This one on the other hand is BEAUTIFUL. Love that grain.

Do you recall how bad it was beat up for that cheap of a price? $1,100 was basically the price I paid for my '08 burst/rosewood and there is no comparison of the two from a mojo alone! $1,600-2,000 seems to be the going price for 70's Ps...?

Interesting that CME has a '75 J for $7,500! Some pro better have owned that for that price. Wonder why such a price difference between Ps and Js from basically the same time? I don't like my J (04 MIM): besides the obvious craftsmanship issues I had to fix, the neck is too thin and too many combinations for sound with blend knobs for each PU. Give me a P with 1 knob for tone, 1 for volume. Done and done! :D

Your grain on that Precision reminds me somewhat of my '78 Jazz. The finish on my Jazz is way worn, so it doesn't bring out the grain pattern like the nicer finish on yours. But I still love this boat anchor of a bass. It's a nasty, nasty machine:

$7.5K for a '75 J? Whoa! I've looked at that on the CME website many times and at that price it will most likely sit there for a loooong time. Also looking at the pictures the string spacing seems way off, the G string is practically falling off the fingerboard.

I'd say leave the bridge cover on - it looks good! Very nice grain pattern on that ash body, how's the weight? I have a '75 P, ash body with maple neck which is heavy at 11,5 lbs, but it's a wonderful player.
