Got this at a really good deal, good enough to leave me room for a refin.
The original owner added the J pickup in 78, then in in 82 the second owner wanted a red bass so he decided to refinish the bass with a spray can.
So right now the bass has a crappy wiring job and a horrible paint job, I know it looks killer on pics but it is really poorly done and regardless I want to cover the J routing and bring it back to original.
With that being said, I have to pick a solid color for the refin/relic work and I already chose one.
So I'll post some pics of what it currently looks like then I'll post some pics of the job done!

Looking forward to seeing what you did with it. I agree it looks pretty good in pix. But I’m on a fiesta red kick right now anyway!

As a "GAS"-er myself (40-plus basses at the moment), I'd say your priorities are just fine! :D

When you say 40-plus you mean... 40 plus... 60? :P

Just got the bass back from Bluesman Vintage!
I had my mind set on wine red or something close to it, but after having a chance to attend to the NAMM show this year and seeing this color up close in 2 different relic basses from 2 different builders I could not resist.
It's an aged Lake Placid Blue, and depending on the light it'll look greener. Almost like Ocean Turquoise.
They did a killer relic job and a great job covering that J routing and the extra hole in the pickguard.
