I think you guys remember this bass.
Recently it came back up for sale and I was able to score it and bring it back to it's former glory!
It came in with SD pickups and a weird brushed aluminum pickguard. The seller claimed it was original but I've never seen G&L offering this type of pickguard.
Also came with 3 tuners stamped Schaller and one stamped G&L.
So I ordered a SB-1 pickup from the G&L site, then followed Bill's cooking recipy here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9378
I painted the bridge and pickguard (had to counter sink the screw holes on the PG) with wrinkle paint and baked it in the oven. Turned out great!
Also, the bass had a Fender MIJ P harness installed so I made a new harness for it just like in the original SB-1 (Thanks Tim for the wiring diagram!)
I then snagged Bill's set of tuners as the ones that came in where also not original and worked poorly.
Thanks Bill for the wrinkle paint tips, thanks Tim for the wiring diagram and thanks Bill again for the tuners.
Listing said it was a 91 but it was actually made in 93.

Droooooooooooool.....

This one was available when I bought my white one. Now seeing it with the black hardware, I have to admit there's a slight second guessing :D

I have to say that there's something satisfying when a project turns out so well!
And a slight disappointment when it's finished. On to the next!!

Thanks guys!
I wasn't 100% sure how it would look but I was sure anything would look better than what it was.
Not to mention the replaced pickup.
I originally wanted to get a black pickguard for it but I remembered Tim's SB-1 has a painted pickguard so I figured it wouldn't hurt trying to paint mine.
Luckily it turned out great!

Thanks Grant!
Like I said earlier the harness was not original so I put one together for it according to the wiring diagram used on the original SB-1 but I feel it sounds a little too bright even with the tone knob all the way down so I will just put the harness the same way they go on a P-bass.
It's been a few days now and I managed to setup the truss rod and bridge saddles the way I like and I'm very happy with the result.
The bass is not heavy, neck is chunky and the pickup sound is massive.
Most of the time I play it with headphones, but every now and then I use the amp.
