it's new tool day here at the shop 8-) I purchased this Duplicarver and will be getting it set-up to use to rough out my necks prior to hand detailing them. this should save me about 4 - 6 hours of rasp and spokeshave time per neck, and allow me to duplicate the rear contours consistently for the various scales, nut widths, and string counts

I'll add images of this in use once I get the routing bed constructed. until then, it might just be a mystery as to what you're actually looking at

all the best,

R

You're right! I look forward to seeing this tool in action to see how it relates to carving necks..... :)

here's an image from the manufacturer website showing how this system would be utilized to duplicate the contoured top on a guitar body. utilizing this for a neck would be very similar

Image

this is essentially a 3D adaption of a pantograph system utilized in sign making. it's also a tool that pre-dates CNC tooling, and could well have been utilized by many of the guitar companies back in the 60's and 70's prior to their adoption of CAD and CNC

all the best,

R

Very cool, it doesn't look that old! In a sense, it's an old-school tool. I hope it helps you increase not only your production schedule, but your profit margin as well!
