update on the color:

I spent some quality time with my new paint guy this past week, and he convinced me not to go a solid color on this one. he assures me that the nuances in this top will be spectacular with a dark, dark red dye job followed with a Heritage Red tinted clear. I saw an example of a lessor topped body in his shop, and it was rather incredible if I do say so

so instead of finishing this myself it's now headed off to the paint shop for paint. more on this in about 6-8 weeks ...

all the best,

R

a few weeks back I got a call from the paint shop ... "that top just won't pop. maybe it's OK for a top, but it's definitely not a NAMM worthy top. what would you like to do?"

plan B says I ... and about a month later, I reveal to you a custom Regenerate color known as 'Desert Sunset'

Image

I tried to capture it correctly in my office, but the lighting just isn't working for my camera so I'll have to shoot another image with good lighting. even with bad lighting that one pretty radical body color :D (the camera flash is giving a burst kind of effect, when in reality it appears as a single color. there's three different clear colors layered on top of a four color mix of metal flake)

I'll have this assembled and set-up within the next week. this will be available for viewing and test-driving at the NAMM show next month in Anaheim

all the best,

R

here's front/back images that are as close to correct as I've been able to capture

ImageImage

definitely NOT your typical lefty color (black, white, or sunburst) eh? :D

barring something missing from my AllParts order which arrives in the morning, this build should be NAMM ready by the end of next week 8-)

all the best,

R

Wow, that looks wild. Is it a sparkle finish with a little extra somethin' in the finish?

yup - there's a whole lot that went into getting that finish right, from the primer color all the way thru to the finish coat tint. talking thru the details with the finish guy was mind boggling - I'd have never thought to do a couple of the steps, nor would I have guessed the color would be what it is even one step in the process prior

in real life there's a translucent depth to the color that is constantly morphing as the lighting changes. I can't wait to see this played under stage lighting

all the best,

R

Looks totally awesome. To me, this bass truly jumped out on the pictures of your NAMM stand and the overview of all the basses you were taking with you. Reminds me of the Autumn Redburst and Autumn Redrise finishes of Ernie Ball, but with an even more intense sparkle effect and without the colour-shifting pattern.

Beautiful basses Jeroen! I've got to say to Rod, in all honesty, your camera just didn't pick the bass up well, there was competition from another bass in the background, and the player was noodling around way to much for me to be able to get a sense of tone from the guitar. Next time you film someone, if you wouldn't mind, ask them to do some long notes, do some walking, and adjust the tone now and then to give us a sense of depth of the EQ abilities of the bass.

the reason I mention all of this, is there are some of us who can't play blazingly fast, as he was, and are more R&B, Blues, and Rock players, where it's all about extended notes and sustain... thanks for listening!

here's a pair of images for your viewing pleasure.

I'll have this bass available direct for a little while longer, and if it doesn't sell it'll be heading off to a dealer for retail priced sale at their store front.

all the best,

R

I got to play this bass a bit. It is SWEET! I really liked the tone, which I would describe as jazz bass with a bit more girth. Definitely of a much higher quality than my American Deluxe Fender Jazz, which is newer than the one Frenchy sold, and my main player right now.

As you all can probably tell, I really dug Rod's handiwork.
