Really really hate to do this one but it's time. Bad decision on a depreciating condo and need to get out so most of the gear has to go for a while as well. There will be other basses !
So this is a Modulus Q5 that has been through the ringer BUT mostly in the body. The neck is actually in beautiful shape. Frets are very good, neck relief is just right (no truss on this older model), no nicks in the graphite, and actually plays very very well. The B string is especially good on this one. Also this neck has SIMS LED's in green installed in the side markers. It was sent to Marty Sims years ago and he did an amazing job. The white ring side markers he used are also super easy to see even without the LED's turned on. A 9v battery powering the LED's and the preamp is in the cavity. LED's are enabled when a cable is inserted.
The body had 2 J pickups in it and was once routed to 2 EMG sized soapbars. From there it became a large swimming pool route to house a single Bartolini Deep Tone dual coil in the sweet spot. It sounds very good there and has great low end even without the preamp.
In the cavity there is a 3 band with mid freq (push/pull) Bartolini preamp. Preamp works very well with no issues. What you will notice in the cavity is where some wood was removed to allow for the pickup route. That is where the small piece of wood is to keep that hole covered. Two switches were in the cavity as well but are no longer used. The Bartolini preamp did not need the switches when later installed.
This bass is actually a real player. The neck with LED's, hardware and electronics alone are worth it. It can be totally gigged as-is or have a new body built based off this one if that were the preference. In fact I was thinking of removing the finish on this one, putting a maple top on and refinishing. It would come out probably like new at that point.
I thought I would put this guy up for you great folks and see if there were any reasonable offers instead of listing a price. You'd be surprised, I'm not looking to make any kind of profit. It needs a good home and I need the cash for expenses. We've all been there, simple as that.
I'll have a few basses up in the next month or two in fact and will just rock my p-bass project for now.
Send any questions and any reasonable offers, don't be afraid to. Those with luthier skills can really turn this around as well !
Here are some specs:
- Lefty Modulus Q5 (mid-late 90's) - 24 fret, 35" scale 5 string (no truss) - SIMS LED side markers in green - Bartolini 3-band preamp - Bartolini MM size dual coil deep tone pickup - Recessed Dunlop Straploks - Schaller roller bridge
I have a hard shell case I can ship this in as well. I prefer US shipping on this guy if possible.
Folks thanks as always for being there and looking !! A great community we have here !!
