I recently purchased this one-of-a-kind beast on an impulse, and I'm putting the feelers out there for a possible sale to the right person...
Here's a crappy cell phone pic... I will post more if someone is interested:
It's a 1960 Custom Shop Fender Jazz Relic. It's the
ONLY lefty made from a limited run of 15 purchased from Fender by Guitar Broker out of Florida... the serial number is GBJB0014. It's basically a lefty "Mary Kay" Jazz... it has a swamp ash body, beautifully figured birdseye maple neck with aged nitro finish (must be seen to be believed), slab rosewood fingerboard, aged
GOLD hardware, "medium relic" translucent vintage white blond finish, w/b/w "aged mint" guard,
matching headstock with gold Fender logo and Custom Shop logo on the back, stack knobs, custom gold neckplate with unique serial number and Guitar Broker logo, brown/gold custom shop case with case candy and paperwork and CoA... also has ashtrays and tugbar (with gold screws)... the whole nine yards.
It only weighs a hair over 8 lbs and the body resonates like CRAZY...
It's a relic, so obviously it is not "mint," but it's in the exact same condition as I bought it. The relic job was done very well... in fact, I talked to Craig Brody (owner of Guitar Broker) on the phone about this bass, and he had them custom reliced to "somewhere between a standard relic and a closet classic." Neck is literally bone-frikkin-straight right now with NO buzz, and I have this thing set-up beautifully with regular Fender Bullet strings (underrated, IMO). The case is exactly how I got it... practically mint with a couple of tiny nicks from being pulled in and out of storage... it still has the plastic on the latches.
If you have never played a lefty Custom Shop Fender, you're missing out... I am lucky ebough to own two, and they are LIGHT YEARS beyond any other Fender I have ever played, USA or otherwise.
Anyway, I bought this bass from johntheleftybassist... I bought it immediately without really thinking about it since it's literally one of a kind. I HAD to have it, and that's all there was to it.
BUT... two things are telling me to list it:
First, is I literally just bought a Fender CS '64 NOS in Seafoam Green about 3 months before this one which I fell deeply in love with almost immediately... it is still my go-to 4-string and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I honestly do not need the blonde bass at all and it's silly for me to hold onto it "just because."
Second, and more important, I recently got some news that makes me think I should probably bring my credit card balance back to zero, just in case. It's nothing bad, but it's personal and I can't really share right now, unfortunately.
Anyway... I'm not at the point where I literally have to sell it, so I'm kind of putting my feelers out to see if anyone is interested.
All I want to do is make my money back on this thing and bring my credit card balance back to zero... in order to do that, I would need $2600 through PayPal. That includes shipping to the lower 48.
That price is literally a steal... to give you an example, here is the younger sister of the bass I have. It's one serial number away:
http://www.guitarbroker.com/node/11393So yeah... I think my bass sold for a little less than that new... and I think that one is more $ because it has the copper flake finish. But, other than that, it's pretty much the same.
Like I said, I'm not at the point where I really have to sell it right now. If I do let it go, I want it to go someone who really understands and appreciates Fender Jazz basses and someone who would love it and take care of it as much as I have.
Anyway... if you have any questions, let me know. I'll try to post more pics this week.
