wow - considering the CITES restrictions on endangeres species trafficking, how were you able to obtain a USA made instrument with a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard? This has definitely got to be a rare beast in Europe

all the best,

R

Doesn't that depend on how old Mike Lull's stock was?

I guess so. Roger Sadowsky offers Brazilian rosewood too. When I was in NYC this summer, I spoke with Kevin of Sadwosky about it, and he told me it's a pile of wood Roger bought a few decades ago. I guess there are some piles of that wood still available from the time it was still allowed, but don't quote me on that, just a guess.

yep thats the deal with sadowsky - he was able to put it on mine last year - he has a big "pre" regulation pile of it stashed somewhere - i bet mike does too...

Or it is the same, or it's its identical twin... Weird indeed. However, I ordered it through them, so they might have used it for photographic purposes... Just a guess, though.

Post subject:  Re: Mike Lull PJ4

I wonder if they mistakenly ordered your bass twice... ?

I've had email discussions with Beaver Felton about lefties before and he made it sound like stocking them is a total pain in the ass... and the only lefties they ever really order for stock these days are very generic popular models like black Stingrays, etc. He won't accept any lefty trade offers either... I've tried.

I'm probably wrong, but, to me, it seems very odd that they would order a lefty Mike Lull bass with such unique features unless it was a mistake or duplicate order of some kind.

French luthier Christian Noguera (awesome luthier BTW) also offers Brazilian Rosewood on his bass :

This came for his quite old stock of wood... maybe one of the best wood for bass lutherie winthin France.
