Selling my left handed Alembic Orion 4 string bass. After living with it for about a month I've decided I'm happier with a 5 string. It's in great shape. Made in 1998. Vermillion top, mahogany body, 24 fret 3 piece maple neck w/ebony fingerboard. Original Alembic pickups and electronics. It comes with the original Alembic/G&G hardshell case and I'll throw in a bottle of Alembic polish, a tube of Flitz, and an Alembic Baseball cap. I'm asking $1600 or best offer. Would be willing to trade for the right lefty 5 string.

Thanks! It is an incredibly well-made, beautiful instrument. I forgot to mention I am willing to ship internationally, buyer pays actual shipping cost. I accept paypal.

Hey, it took me YEARS to figure out that I really do prefer 5-stringers. I play in church/orchestra a good bit, and so many songs are written in Eb and Bb, and the fifth string makes it very simple.

I wanted to buy the Alembic 4 you had for sale a few years back, but I couldn't sell my Rickenbacker at the time to raise the funds. Ironic considering how fast I could sell a Rickenbacker now.

Are those old fender flats on that alembic? I thought I was the only person in the world that played a lefty alembic with fender flats on it.

This might be that same Alembic 4. I bought it from EZstep.

The strings are actually Alembic strings.

Ah, that makes sense. The silks on the saddle look just like fender flats.. but now I see there are silks on the posts as well. Anyway.. back on topic.

Hey, if it were a 5-er, I would have never let it go. As it is, I did order a new 5-er from Skip at Knuckle and I was thinning out a few before the new one comes it. Absolutely nothing wrong with the Alembic. Fantastic workmanship. It just didn't fit my style of music and it needed a fat B string on it. :D

Just posted it on eBay with a buy it now of $1350. I'd rather not pay the eBay fees, so if anybody here wants it, let me know and I'll cut you a deal. Thanks.

Beautiful bass. Are you primarily interested in a trade for a 5 stringer?

I've got an Epic. How does the Orion differ from an Epic? Also, does anybody know what it cost to upgrade the electronics to Alembic's low pass filter/Q switch setup? I've thought about possibly doing that too.

Thanks! Yep, looking for a 5 string. Same construction and electronics on the Orion and Epic, only difference is the body shape. That and the Orion has the "Bird" tailpiece. The Orion is the set-neck version of the Europa Bass. I'd call the Orion/Europa the least "Alembic-like" of all the Alembic body styles, and it's my favorite out of all of them. The filter/Q switch mod costs around $350-400 for the parts if I remember right. Totally user installable, though. Comes with detailed instructions, and the folks at Alembic are super helpful if you had questions or needed help.

Is this still available? I have an Alembic 5 string Essence with side marker red LED's and Koa top and Koa headstock. Beautiful bass, but I'm a four string kinda guy. Maybe work a deal OR I just buy your Orion (if still available). -Eric

Oh well....thanks for the prompt response. Orion and Epic 4's just have the tone & playability I like. I'll be posting\selling the Alembic 5 string Essence as soon as I get pics. I can't get the hang of 5string, but someone out there will like that bass. Take care, -E
