Hi. It is indeed a fender body, but has been custom painted over. Looks as though it may have been yellow originally. Not knowing much about the bass when I got it, I made every effort I could to try to confirm as much as possible about it. While it is shiny from the pictures and the paint is not in bad shape, you can tell in person that the paint job has been on for a very long time. The bridge and preamp section are definitely old school as well. Not trying to misrepresent anything, just saying all I know, and offering the option for people to return it if it's not what they wanted. That's as honest as I can get without meeting up and letting people see it in person. For me when I bought it, it was just a cool, unique looking bass that had a sound that took me back 30 years to the songs I grew up on. I wasn't looking at it from the perspective of it being a classic until people started asking me questions about it and saying they'd never seen anything like it. I just don't do fretless now, and I don't need 10 basses taking up space!
Since I got this one, I have picked up two more 1970s fender basses that I know I will keep (hey, when ya find em, ya grab em!). Thanks for the question!
