Post subject: | Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Pickup Buzzing | ||
Hi All, The good news - I found a cheap Yamaha BB400 a few weeks ago (pic attached - please excuse temporary jazz knobs), and it's in pretty good condition for an early 80's MIJ bass. I decided that the pickups needed to be replaced, as they did not sound as good as those in my BB1600. I didn't want to go crazy with Fralins or Lollars this time, so I dropped in a set of Seymour Duncan SPB-3 (p-bass) Quarter pounders. They sound great, but even though I followed the wiring diagram and shielded the cavities (with foil and a wire to ground), I am getting what seems to be a grounding issue on one of the two "P" pickups, but not the other. If I touch any of the poles on the upper pickup with my right hand, I get the dreaded zapping sound, and it goes away if I do it while I have my left hand on the strings. The lower pickup, however, is completely immune to my prodding. It does not make a zapping sound whatever I do. Given that they are wired together, this makes my brain hurt. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Any trouble-shooting advice most welcome. Cheers, Dave
