I had a bass that suffered a little goober as I was fitting the neck into the pocket for final assembly - the walking of the neck into the pocket lifted a small area of the finish. you can see it here in this close-up the remedy for this is to soak a little bit of ultra thin CA glue onto the edge of the neck pocket, and let the glue wick itself into the seperation joint. I used 2P-10 Thin CA glue together with a micro-tip designed to fit onto the bottle tip. You can get these at Woodcraft, but don't go looking at Home Depot or Lowes cuz all you'll be doing is wasting your time driving there for nothing. Stew Mac sell a similar product pairing for quite a bit more $$$ and fewer micro-tips here's the repaired goober - even with magnifying glasses it's impossible to see this under a work light. even better is knowing that this finish lift has been stopped dead in its tracks, and it won't grow on years of customer playing a similar approach can be used for other types of finish seperations. in some cases you need to use a surgical syringe to inject the CA under the finish (unless you want to drill a couple 'vampire' holes into the seperated area so you can wick in and provide an escape path for the air) please note that I have not used this approach on a Nitro finish, and cannot verify how the CA might react with the Nitro. all the best, R |
