Done this several times, most of these open gear Fender style tuners are reversible.

That trick could become handy some time!

Yeah, I was kinda surprised Dave didn't know that you could do that. And, yes, I've done it a time or two myself. I think the problem with tuners is that we tend to think of them as "left (or right) hand tuners" - and they're not. They're left (or right) side tuners - and for us lefties who're looking for in line tuners, we usually need right side ones. As for those Schallers - it took me less than a minute per tuner to convert the last set. But I guess I've had more practice.... ;)

I always have to shake my head a bit when I see reversible type left handed tuners listed for a good bit higher price than the right handed ones.

"Aww, suck it!"

D-tuners, on the other hand, are not reversible. I am actually going through the tribulations right now of trying to get the right tuners for a bass. I ordered a treble-side D-tuner and they sent me a bass-side, so I am dead in the water at the moment. It is on its way back, now. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I have since to decided to go with a different finish.
