Aged 67 Jethro Tull's first bassplayer. He set the bar very high for all the rest who followed him. I have always been a big fan of JT and Mr. Cornick was a big influence on me when I was a beginning bassplayer. |

Huge influence on me- he has a kind of strange connection to us southpaws- look at his "This Was" era bass- circa 1967-68. It's a great sounding Jazz bass- with a LEFTY neck on it. That must have been quite rare in the U.K. at that time- and to put it on a righty bass? I think he converted it to fretless, as well...sure sounds like it on that record. R.I.P. R.I.P. I have the Rock 'm Roll Circus DVD with Glenn playing that bass. Tony Iommi was Tull's guitarist at that point; maybe he gave Glenn that neck. |

I just listened to the entire "This Was" album. I might get some strange comments after this claim, but hearing it every so often, reminds me that it's perhaps one of the greatest 'debut' albums in Rock music history- up there with Hendrix, Led Zepplin... EVERY song is great, and Mick Abrams guitar playing, Clive Bunker's drumming, Ian Anderson's flute and clarinet playing are all just perfect. Cornick is almost certainly playing that jazz bass converted fretless, with flats... It really sounds quite unique. Plays his ass of on that record. The recording is killer, too. Highly recommended. |
