My band wants to do Subdivisions by Rush. However, I am having a bear of a time figuring out the 3 bass breaks in the song. I have a tool - Amazing Slow Downer - which is helping me somewhat, but it ain't quite cutting it. Anyone know of a link to a decent tab or video that might help a guy out? I can't seem to find anything other than a million other bassists covering the tune on youtube. |

I use songsterr.com, if you never used it most songs are up there. For this one they have Tabs for GTR, Vocal reference as well as drums and a few others. Now what I like about songsterr is you can mute other tracks so if you want you could mute out all instruments except for drums and bass or mute the bass and play along with gtr and drums. It is a learning too so the instruments due not sound like gtr or drums but are a good enough to practice against. http://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/rush-subdivisions-tab-s17076t2 I am friends with one of the guys in Shadow Gallery and a few of their songs are up there, I showed him Songsterr, then showed him his songs and he agreed that it is close to what he plays on the record. |

Old CD players used to be able to do this and they had that nice A-B mode where you could just loop a passage. Check out the isolated bass from Duran Duran's Rio. This would be what you'd need, but how do they isolate the bass nowadays, I don't know. FWIW, you can hear some mistakes and sloppy, which I love hearing... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr3HCNI ... e=youtu.be pete |
