Hi all, I am happy I found this forum...while looking for a 5 String Fender Bass actually...

I would like to introduce some of my music to my fellow lefties, I use a Jazz Bass for all my recordings..

http://youtube.com/tamalocal

I have released 2 Eps last year and have a full album on the way very soon!

I bought my MIJ Jazz Bass at the price of 500 bucks from the son of a Japanese diplomat...It had never been touched...
I am now on the lookout for a Fender 5 string at a decent price...Any leads...The prices on eBay are too much..

Thank you! I am kinda giving up on the MIJ Fender at this price, it's just exaggerated. I am inclined towards the Ibanez SR505 at the moment...Also a struggle to find lefty since they are discontinued!

You are going to have a hard time finding a Fender 5 left handed. I had asked on this forum a while back, and I decided that I probably would have to get a custom made if I want a five string left handed fender style bass. The only one I know about otherwise is the KSD 605 and 705 for $800 US, http://www.adirondackguitar.com/lefty/ken_smith/5.htm. I believe Sandberg makes some in Europe too, though I don't know which country you are in. Feel free to PM, in Spanish or English you prefer, to discuss more.

Good luck

G'day from another Sydneyite. For a 5 string J, the Ken Smiths or MIJ Fenders are your only affordable production choices but Fender have ceased production so you can only get them in Japan at a reasonable-ish price. I've played one here in Japan, it was fine sounding, comfy with bridge spacing about 17.5-18mm, although the nut is only 42mm, but it was surprisingly uncramped for my small hands and not very noticeably different from my 45mm Thumb 5. Other than that, Japanese maker Bossa & Bacchus do some great 5s but not much change from A$2k new so looks like the Ibby 505 is an easier find, I have one & love it, it plays itself, is mega light & sounds great; very under-rated. If you gotta stick with a classic look, as velalv said it's gonna be Musicman, Lakland, Sandberg or custom as far as I know. Check out some of these sites that may be helpful. BTW, liked your stuff on the vids, keep the lefty flag flying!

Thank you so much for the help! it's great to hear from another lefty and Sydneysider! sometimes it feels like I'm all alone here! I have contacted Tanigushi today, regarding prices, wish me luck...I would love to get a Ibanez SR505, however I am not able to find one anywhere at the moment on the net...
The stuff on my youtube is just the tip of the iceberg lol. My album is not out yet but on the way! it has a Japanese JB62 on every track..It has served me well but I am already thinking of my next project, and I want to explore more heavy bass driven grooves, funk & R&B...Like the stuff on Maxwell albums, Reggie Hamilton...That stuff is all 5 string bass.

BTW, Taniguchis have a new SR505 with a miniscule blemish going for ¥70k, about A$750, & these are also discontinued although you can find them on eBay occasionally. Good luck with what you choose & remember if you can keep it under A$1k, or they'll adjust the invoice for you, you don't have to pay GST.

These days SR505's come up on eBay about every six months or less. They just don't turn up very often anymore. $750 is a bit high, although I think they were originally $599-699, when offered new.

This is an inexpensive bass, an Ibanez SR205L - http://www.interstatemusic.com/839191-I ... pingdotcom, but I bought the 6-string version os this, and thought the sound and build quality was very good. Of course, nothing will sound like a Fender, if that's the sound you're looking for...

I'd consider looking at the G+L 5 string on Craigslist in Atlanta in the USA.

Thought the same thing, although it can be tough buying internationally... did a quick Google search for "Fender left handed 5 string bass" and so far this is all that's popping up...

This is all I could find at the moment... other than that, having a custom 5-string built for you would be your next option...
