Sad year for bassists and the music world, as yet another great bassist has left us (first Duck, now Bob). One of my earliest gigs was playing in a Motown tribute band years ago and had to learn a lot of his lines. Along with Jamerson he became a big influence on my playing. He's played on hundreds of classic tracks, but none more fun to play for me than this simple, powerful repetitive vamp that you can easily lose track of time grooving on in one of my all-time favorite Temp's songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWtIvoub6XU |

First Duck, now Bob; it's been a rough year! We also lost Jon Lord today; talk about a double whammy! |

A great place to see Bob Babbit in action is the documentary "Standing in the shadow of Motown" (It's available on Netflix). Geez! I didn't know about Jon Lord...The first time I heard a Deep Purple record I was blown away by the keys...along with Ray Manzarek (Doors) he was my favorite Rock keyboard player. |
