A left-handed bass player with an interesting rig is featured in "Dig my rig". His name is Jerry Mark. Is he part of this forum by any chance? Also the luthier Jerzy Drozd is featured with the incredible left-handed 12 string bass he made for Yves Carbonne. |

Hey Y'all, I have to give big props to Bass Guitar Magazine from the UK. They give way more time to southpaws than any other mag. The September issue had lefty Lee Pomeroy - who's played with the likes of Take That, Robbie Williams, Annie Lennox and Rick Wakeman - on the cover. They've also recently featured Jimmy Haslip and a few other lefties lately. AND!!! In the December issue, they reviews not one, not two, but THREE different LEFT HANDED BASSES. The G&L L2000, Clover Apeiron 4 and the Clover Avenger 5. When's the last time you saw any magazine actually test a lefty instrument?!? I've spent a lot of time in the UK and done quite a few shows there. (Going back this May!) Guitar retailers seem to have a kinder, gentler attitude towards us lefties in general. I also have to say that Bass Guitar Magazine - IMHO - is a much more well rounded publication in terms of musical styles than its North American counterparts. My wife gets me a subscription every year for Christmas. Y'all might hint this to your significant other next birthday/anniversary/fathers day etc. Check it out. http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/ |

this is encouraging news. It may be another decade before rightys stop ignoring the vast amount of people who will always play this way, but at least in the past 10 years leftys have been stepping up to the plate and getting the time they need to show the world that: "notes are notes, frets are frets, those things are always going to be the same, no matter how you hold the damn thing".... ( even for the weirdo inverted players ) |

Check it out. http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/ I've wanted to subscribe to that magazine for looooooong time, but I can't justify shelling out $70 USD for a one-year subscription. Especially since I just picked up another two years of Bass Player for about $25. |

Especially since I just picked up another two years of Bass Player for about $25. It does seem expensive but it breaks down to $5.83 an issue, which ain't bad. But that's why I recommend dropping hints to your wife/girlfriend/partner/mom/Santa Claus about it. |

The two countries that I've found to be the most "lefty friendly" for bassists and guitarists are: #1 the UK, and #2 Japan. It must be some island thing The US goes in spurts. In my lifetime, the height of lefty love was the mid-late 1990s and I think that's due completely to Kurt Cobain. At the moment, things don't seem so terrible, but could be way better. The nadir had to be about the time I started playing in the early '80s. But in general, the US music biz is not as tolerant to recessive genes it seems, which is amazing since it's also the largest. |

I'll say! I've even been able to arrange for a lefty bass rental from a pro backline company in the UK when my bass was - gulp! - temporarily lost by Air Transat. It was a MIM Jazz but it did the trick! Check it out. It wasn't even a special favour. They list in on their rental list. http://www.ststouring.co.uk/bass-equipment-dry-hire-pricing/ Try to find a backline company in NA that keeps a lefty bass on hand. |

It's true. My old rehearsal space in NYC actually had a beat up lefty Yamaha you could borrow for sessions. But they were the first to admit, it was totally an accident and they wouldn't have had it on hand if some junkie hadn't hocked it to them for $10 in 1989. <shudder> BTW I agree with your signature: it is probably safer not to be able to buy anything you want.... |

I let my sub lapse this year because I am not pleased with the lack of content or the poorly written articles and while 2 years for $20 was okay, almost double that for a year re-sub was not! Too bad 'cause I like having a bass centered mag and they even quoted me in an issue last year, but $$ is tight and I want more for my dollar. |

I am a Warwick fanatic but man o day Bass Player has turned into a real rag man with nothing but cheesy corny Warwick crap. Sort of embarrassing how every other page is their 8 billion dollar basses...The magazine now is like 9 pages thick anymore too and with 5 pages of Warwick propaganda its useless IMO. I still have a scrip and yes there is some good content but it just seems to be less and less and more adds and product promo no meat you know what I mean? Freaking Warwick is tasteless but hell maybe that's why the basses suite me so well. |
