My hard-drive was messed up and I had to replace it. Instead of having to save all the files, re-install Windows and then re install all the applications one by one (Geez! how long does that take?), which is the old school way of doing it, I got the imaging software Acronis, copied the image of my drive onto an external drive, installed a new hard drive and recovered the image of my old hard drive. My computer was back in action with a lot less trouble. It was the first time I did this operation and I was pretty satisfied with all the troubles avoided. If you are in IT or computer savvy you are familiar with this procedure but I think many regular computer user don't know about imaging. So I just want to share this cool stuff.

I've used norton ghost since 2003 - does the same thing :):)

for the win vista/7 OS, Acronis also works perfectly.

imaging software can be a lifesaver ... until your Master Boot Record gets hacked/corrupted. We recently tried to salvage a buddy's HD who picked up some kind of virus/malware/trojan/IDK what hosed his MBR but it was bad, bad, bad LOL.

Nothing we did worked and he didn't wanna spend $$$ to take it to a pro shop, so we just installed a new HD for him.
