Techy style thoughts from a NON-engineer :ugeek: but just wondering why most amp makers don't/won't make their heads & combos user switchable between 100~240v? I've got a lo tech, $20 portable electric shaver that can auto detect the voltage, why can't my hi tech, $1000 amp head? :? Some makers do & it's as simple as flicking a rocker switch or even just doing nothing! :idea: While we're on it, why don't 99% of cabs have an ohmage switch? Again, some do but is it really that difficult? Wouldn't it make it easier on the companies to have just one set of guts for their amps & cabs? It would allow more versatility with rigs & enable the most efficient usage of your gear. Any explanations would be welcomed. :?

Probably much more knowledgeable people here on these questions than I but when you have a cab with an ohm selector you are using resistors which can cause serious degradation the sound and tone. The natural resistance of the windings on the voice coil is normally the best way to go. The less BS in the signal chain the better active or passive for pretty much everything in live or recording.

The amount of power required to turn a mini motor in a razor is much less demanding than to give power to a bass amplifier. I have been told the bass frequencies are the most demanding and hardest to reproduce cleanly. The demand of a razor will be consistent and normally nobody shaves for a 3 hour gig. The power demand to the wall from a huge power supply inside an amplifier is sometimes none and in a split second up to and over 10 amps and then nothing again. There are huge and fast draws and in normal call A or A/B high current led sled amps with lots of glorious mosfets. Tube amps need to have big capacitors filled with juice for the transient changes too. Class D is much different I believe they more or less have the ability to draw directly from the wall what is needed. Anyway there is a slight difference from a Norelco razor and my SWR SD-1500. My head weighs 67 Lb and the razor maybe 6 Oz. My head has two 10 amp breakers built in the razor draws in micro amps just very different needs. But I have seen my amp used in Europe so there is a way to do it I just think it’s a little more beefy in the amps. Good questions though..Europe and South America runs current in DC and US is AC too..I think...I know when you flush a toilet in South America the water spins in the other direction :)
