Hey:
Looks I will miss it. I am going to be in Europe, and making my way up to London, some time in the last week of May, but not that much earlier. If you have some ideas for good bass stores in London to visit let me know. Don't know if I can get to Birmingham, but may want to make the effort. Thanks for letting us know.
For basses generally The Bass Gallery in Camden is hard to beat. These are the same guys that make Sei basses, and are IMHO about as good as it gets. The only downside is that like most such places they don't routinely stock many lefties (although they do have my Thumb 5 BO up there, as well as a rather tasty '90's Streamer). Well worth a visit even so, as they have a huge stock of high end amps as well. You can google the store. Getting there is easy if you're happy to use the Tube. Get off at Camden Town and 5 min walk up Camden Road. 100metres along New College street and you're there. It's a small storefront but don't let that fool you.
If you want to do the tourist thing you could check out Denmark Street (the original Tin Pan Alley IIRC). It's just off the Charing Cross Road (again there's a tube station nearby) - if you get lost just ask one of the locals. Trust me, they'll know. I don't think the range is as good as the Gallery, but plenty of shops to choose from.
Hope that helps.
Edit: if you want to know more about finding your way around Birmingham's music stores just let me know.
