For years I thought that most plugin reverbs sounded very artificial and could not keep up with hardware units unless you were to spend over 1k for something like a Lexicon PCM plugin.
I just bought this incredibly natural sounding algorithm reverb for $50 (buy browsing the various recording gear discussion boards). It is called Valhalla Room.
