Funny you should mention this listing. I was watching it, since I'm in the market for a 12 string. We've been doing a few songs in my cover band that require it, and I've been getting passable 12 string sounds with my EH POG and sometimes Variax.

But $4000 It's amazing that not only did Rickenbacker jack their prices up over 40% a couple of years ago, but that there's still a huge demand for them.

FYI, I think I may end up going this route instead. Mike's running a deal this week which includes a free Valcro compressor with purchase of the Eastwood Classic 12. Of all the Rick 12 string copy demos I've heard, this guitar seems to nail those tones better than any other:

That Eastwood comes pretty close to Ric tones. I'd be interested to hear what one of those sounds like with a Janglebox. oh wait! Here's one ... but the AC15 model doesn't do this justice sonically.

Is it my imagination or is there a particular anger on this board for Rickenbacker compared with other companies?

Any idea why RIC is the target of such bile?

From what I remember, there've mostly been threads about poor QC and questionable build quality... then a ton of people pile on about how Ric isn't what it used to be... and then all the fan-boys come in and say it's impossible that Ric would ever let anything "bad" out the door...

They usually turn into rather big messes and get locked.

you are probably correct in your assesement, but in my particular case I can tell you it is cynicism rearing it's ugly head.

I'm just tired of getting yanked around by Ric management. They should just come out and say that lefties are not in their plans at all. Dithering back and forth on the issue reduces their credibility in my eyes.

I remember gibbenbokerbass ( or however you spelled it ) BEFORE he got banned starting a thread every 2 days whining about how he got ripped off because his 2500.00 natural supposed matched body was so horribly unmatched and ugly and wanted to get the whole TB community involved to cry WITH him instead of returning it...

especially when the trollers showed him many many pics of their perfect natural matched units they paid less for.

eventually he was banned and the whole Ric community over there was happy....as far as them making new leftys, thats a 50-50.
50% of people will be glad they don't so the leftys out there will rise in cost astronomically, and the other 50% are bummed because they want to pay a normal price, or get a brand new one and can't.

About a decade ago, I purchased a Rickenbacker 330 which I then sold a couple of years ago for over double the price. My current bass is a 4001, which I got for a great price. It is tempting to cash out while prices are high, but I just love this bass!

I had a lefty 4003 that I bought in 1984 new and sold in 1991 and didn't make any money from the deal. I used the cash to help finance the purchase of a new lefty 340/12 that I still have. But I'm not getting rid of that until I need retirement money. I love/use it too much.

Rick's have QC problems? No argument from me if you're talking about Gibson, Fender, etc., but I've always been fairly blown away by Rick's QC. I've owned my '79 4001 for over a decade now and it has NEVER required a setup or neck adjustment. Took it out of the case the other day after not playing it for a few months and it still had perfect action, intonation. It was even 99% in tune (G string was only off a micro tone)! It's the most stable neck I've ever encountered.

Maybe the newer ones have spottier QC, I dunno.

Everything I remember reading about was in regard to recent purchases.

+1 My '84 and '91 had the best QC of any instrument I've owned. But I haven't tried any recent ones.

I have a strange musical conspiracy theory about the unusually high passions surrounding Rickenbackers. It's because they are so intimately associated with The Beatles.

It might also have something to do with that "heavy metal thunder" stuff from Steppenwolf too!!
