I just bought an ST-824. It's been a dream bass of mine for a loooong time. Attachment: Screen shot 2011-05-11 at 7.16.38 PM.png Yes, it's righty - I don't let that sway me from buying basses. Those PUPs are old Dimarzio's and I want to replace them with either Ibanez Super T-4's or similar. Do you know of a source for these? The bass plays and sounds fantastic, however, I want it to be a wee bit more original. Those PUPs just don't look right and that awful "pickguard" was added because the Dimarzio's are so small they don't fit the original route. Also, that's a Badass II bridge that somebody painted black. Any source for a replacement bridge? I can certainly Dremel it back to a nice shine. Thanks! pete |

Finding a set of original Super T-4 pickups with Trisound (coilsplittable and series/parallel) will be very difficult, they were only used in the Studio basses and are very rare. The old Accucast B bridge is more common as it was used on many Ibanez basses in the late 70s and early 80s. Many were replaced (I don't understand why, because they're great and solid bridges with a lot of mass). Good thing you still have those Suregrip knobs and the original Velvetune tuners in place though! I recently saw a set of Suregrip knobs on eBay for 200 USD! ![]() I'm not sure if there is a direct replacement pickup for these. I've never seen any Studios, Musicians or early Roadsters (which also had the big Super P-4 soapbars) with replaced pickups. Only one MC824 with Bill Lawrence humbuckers (guitar humbucker sized) in mounting rings, similar to yours. So not much help here I'm afraid. When Googling for 'Ibanez MC924 pickup' I did find this though: http://www.bartolini.net/special_instru ... fgs_ib.htm No specs whatsoever, but worth asking! |

Please let me know if you want to get rid of those DiMarzio's. |

iome wrote: Please let me know if you want to get rid of those DiMarzio's. Yes, I do. They sound awesome and the bass is silent. It's just a matter of finding replacements. I'm sure the barts fit, but it's the electronics I'm concerned about. Want to make sure it's back to original. pete |
