No, I don't have a "Top 5" because there are so many great players that it would be impossible but as for a list of players who influenced me as a player that list would include:

Geddy Lee
Jaco
Chris Squire
John Paul Jones
Jack Bruce
John Entwistle
Stanley Clarke
Geezer Butler
John Deacon
Peter "Mars" Cowling

David Wm. Sims (Jesus Lizard)
Rob Wright (NoMeansNo)

With a list like that, I'm surprised you left out Mike Watt, Karl Alvarez, or Klaus Flouride... 3 more of my personal faves.

yeah i know alot of people cant pick just 5 i know i couldnt at first i was talking to the guitar player in the band iam in and he said who are some of your favorite bass players so i just started spilling out names left and right lol and he said wait only 5 who would be in your top 5 i was like i cant choose lol and then i gave it some serious thought one day and came up with my list but i love so many more bassist then just 5 but if i had to pick 5 those are my 5

We grew up in different times 1. Jaco 2. Charles Mingus 3. Brian Bromberg 4. Vic Wooten 5. Marcus Miller Clearly, I picked mine based just on who I listen to / am influenced by. I would say the top 3 are interchangeable.

Oof, I don't know if I could pick 5 favorites, but I'll try. in no order: Peter Hook (Joy Divison/New Order) Eric Avery (Jane's Addiction) Joe Lally (Fugazi) Daryl Jenifer (Bad Brains) David Wm. Sims (Jesus Lizard) But honestly, excluding Nick Pie (Shotmaker), Chuck Dukowski (Black Flag), Bob Weston (Shellac), Rob Wright (NoMeansNo) and Nate Mendel (SunnyDayRealEastate) from my list of faves kinda hurts. But in terms of lasting influence I can live with that top 5 list. Plus, no Mingus. Damn.

All kidding aside and in no particlar order i would add as personal favorites and personal influence: 1. Duck Dunn 2. Phil Lesh 3. Jack Cassidy 4. Bob Glaub 5. And a hearty +1 to James Jaimeson I'm going to try real hard to keep Sting off of this list

Though I don't play like any of them, there are elements in my personal playing style that I attribute directly to these men.
