Any tips or recommendations for flight cases? I will be flying from New York out to Colorado and back some time in early summer. My bass is a reversed righty P so I don't need a custom lefty case for it. |

Depending on what airline, you should be able to carry on your bass in a gig bag and stow it in the overheads. We use Southwest for our fly dates and this works great, no issues or worries. |

Is it quite a valuable bass? |

I'd spend maybe $150 tops for a flight case since it would be useful for my other basses too. Hoping to find something used for considerably less. I know gig bags are accepted on some flights but if there are any unplanned changes you can end up on some carrier that doesn't accept them. Bigtime headache. |

I have one of these... It's the mid-line Warwick Rockcase Flight Case... model 10830B, I think. It looks great. It's fairly light (not superlight though) and thinner than most flight cases... and it is well padded on the inside. Buckles and hinges both seem like they're pretty decent, and the handle it actually quite comfortable in the hand. So far, it has been on two flights... one was from Germany to the USA, and the other was from North Dakota to San Francisco, CA. I can say two things... 1.) It's short on the inside. It fit my Fender Jazz bass pretty tight... enough so that the strap pin was pushed into the foam on the bottom and the headstock was still touching the foam at the top. A semi-snug fit is definitely safer, but I prefer to have room to add padding with towels or t-shirts than I do to solely rely on the hard padding that comes in the case. My Mike Lull M5V, which is 35" scale with a 4+1 headstock, will NOT fit in the case at all. Any of my 3+1 or 3+2 basses fit much better than even my regular 4-string Fender Jazz. Since P-basses are a little shorter than J-basses, your bass would probably fit pretty nicely. 2.) The second flight the case went on, a rivet for one of the corner brackets snapped... way too soon for something like that to happen, IMO. I'm not sure if I trust flying with it again. *** So... my final verdict is that even though these cases look bad-ass... especially for the money... I don't really think they're made for a whole lot of travelling around. They're also not very universal... so if it's something that you would want to keep for a long time and use for other basses, a 35" scale bass with 4-in-line tuners probably will NOT fit in this case. However, if you're in the market to get something safe for just a couple of trips and you don't want to spend a ton of cash, one of these cases will more than likely fit the bill. |

I have a brand new unused Warwick flight case like Addison shows above. Fits most basses and has adjustable body purport padding. Interested? |
