I'm going away for three weeks of training to mid-Americarooni.

Anybody in those areas know of good instrument stores? And while I'm at it, bookstores?

I can't believe I actually have a tip on this but... I was on tour - as a driver and tour manager - with a rock band from Mongolia a few years ago, and they spent a couple hours, and about $10k in this shop in a suburb of Des Moines. I can't recall the lefty availability, but the guys there were really great.

Ha... no. I know those guys as well though. The guys I've worked for are Hanggai. There's an interesting Dutch connection there. Two of my good friends - who also work at Paradiso in Amsterdam - run their management company. (Earthbeat Music) I literally had a drunken conversation with one of the guys on a bar stool at Meloe Malo one night years ago about trouble they were having getting a van in Toronto. I said, "Hey... I've got a van in Toronto..". The rest was history. I've toured with them in North America a bunch of times now. (And some other artists on their roster.) They are amazing. One of their old guitar players was a lefty actually. He played strung righty and never had an actual lefty guitar before, until I took him to Chicago Music Exchange and he got a lefty - strung righty - Gibson Custom black beauty Les Paul. It's always a wild ride with those guys. When I first toured with them, it was all ramen noodle cups and BBQ's in the park on the cheap. Then they blew up, and it was Hilton hotels and $10,000 days at places like the above mentioned guitar shop in Des Moines. The guys at that shop didn't know what hit them. Hahah... I walked in their with 7 Genghis Kahn looking dudes and a big blonde Dutch guy. Not their usual customer base. It was a Sunday and I don't think they thought anything was going out the door that day.
